As you will be aware, it was announced that the Scottish Government’s intention is for childcare settings to re-open to children from 22nd February. This is subject to continued progress in suppressing the virus and will be subject to final confirmation on the 16th February.
We will let you know once we have had confirmation and fingers crossed, we will see you all back on the 22nd February.
Stay Safe Everyone.
There is a wealth of resources and materials available online for ELC practitioners/other educators to use to support children and families learning at home.
Here are links to various useful websites, which offer guidance and inspiration for both staff and parents/carers on how to engage children with meaningful and developmentally appropriate experiences outdoors. Particularly during this time of Covid-19, it is important that we consider our children and families’ wellbeing and encourage them to be active, connect with each other and have fun in nature.

COVID-19 Protocol
Suspected COVD-19:
At Home:
Should a child or staff member show signs of COVID-19 they must follow the Test and Protect guidance, which includes staying at home, self-isolating, and contacting the NHS for advice on testing.
-
If a child has suspected COVID-19 the parent should arrange for the child to get a test.
-
If a staff member has suspected COVID-19 they should self isolate at home and arrange for a test.
At Nursery:
If there has been a suspected case of COVID-19 within the setting, the immediate area occupied by the individual should be cleaned with standard household detergent and disinfectant. This should include any potentially contaminated high contact areas such as door handles, telephone/radio, handrails. Once this has been completed the area can be put back in to use.
The cloths and mop heads used should be placed in a disposable bag and then double bagged, stored for 72 hours before putting out for collection.

-
They will then be removed from the room they are in and will wait in the office where a window will be opened if necessary.
-
If the child/staff member becomes very unwell and you feel it is an emergency, dial 999 for an ambulance and notify them of your concern in regards to COVID-19 so the ambulance crew are aware and protected. Follow all guidance given on the phone.
-
They will be encouraged not to touch any of the surrounding areas and should they need to cough or sneeze a tissue should be used to cover their nose and mouth and disposed of in a bin with a disposable bag.
-
Once they have left the setting the bag should be placed inside another disposable bag and stored for 72 hours before being put out for collection.
-
The children within the room will have been asked to wash their hands and be taken outdoors for outdoor play until the room can be cleaned with standard household detergent and disinfectant.
-

-
Staff – Their next of kin will be contacted and asked to collect the staff member. If this is not possible a suitable way for the staff member to travel home will be discussed. If there is no means of private travel and public transport is taken they must follow the Scottish Guidelines in place for face masks to be worn at all times. These can be supplied by nursery if necessary.
-
If a child is being collected by an ambulance and the family does not arrive before the ambulance needs to leave, the Manager will escort the child to the hospital until the family can meet you there.

Coronavirus Guidelines
(updated 26th August 2020)
Dear Parents,
As you are aware the health and well being of all our staff, parents and children are extremely important to us.
As with any health concerns, we want to ensure we are minimising the impact and reducing the possibility of exposure in appropriate ways within our nursery.
Please note that individuals who have symptoms of COVID-19 must not come into nursery and they must contact the nursery manager.
We require the individual to remain out of the child care setting and arrange for a test. The individual may return to the child care setting after a negative result, and they are back to good health.
“Typical symptoms of coronavirus include fever and a cough that may progress to severe pneumonia causing shortness of breath and breathing difficulties”
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. Call your GP or NHS 24 on 111 out of hours.
For further information, please visit the NHS Coronavirus (COVID-19) section on their website: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
Public Health Advice – Returning Travellers
Please visit the Government website for more information relating to ‘Guidance for British people travelling overseas during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.’ https://www.gov.uk/guidance/travel-advice-novel-coronavirus
As you are aware our main priority is the health and well being of our community, including the nursery children, their families and colleagues. The guidance from Public Health England / Wales / Scotland continues to evolve, sometimes on a daily basis, therefore if you have plans to travel to any specified areas:
-
Can you please let the manager know about your travel plans.
-
As the advice can sometimes change on a daily basis we would appreciate it if you could call NHS 111 on your return, before you come back to the nursery, just to check that the advice you received before you went is still relevant and hasn’t changed during your time away.
-
Please then provide an update either via a phone call or email to the nursery.
-
Thank you for being supportive and considerate in this manner.
